So my off season has been pretty busy, with various different things on my agenda, first of all I finally got round to doing my driving test..which I passed first time with 3 minors after a solid 9 hours of lessons in one week, it's made my life a little easier getting from A to B. The beginning of November I went to watch the Manchester Track World Cup (where I drove myself and didn't have to get a train for the first time ever-awesome), it was great to catch up and see a lot of my friends from around the world, the highlight was obviously Mouldy getting bronze in the scratch race!!
A week later and it was time to meet up with all my new team mates for the 2014 season in Ludlow, although I knew who everyone was because I'd been racing against them all year trying to beat them, it was fun to get to know them personally! If I said to you the weekend was a good laugh it would be an understatement...it was absolutely hilarious! Everyone got on really well and the food cooked by Mrs Weaver (our team managers wife) was a solid 10/10. The weekend consisted of lots of organising for 2014- training camps and racing, receiving our Scott Speedster training bikes, a lovely social training ride around Herefordshire and lots of kit, which was very exciting, lets be honest everyone loves new kit don't they? Huw Williams was kind enough to come up to Ludlow to be chief photographer for the weekend, you can see the pictures here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/huwspics/sets/72157637569129953/
Jessie Walker and I did some filming for a programme called BBC Horizon at the Manchester Velodrome along with a few other people. We had to do a 500m Time Trial (two laps of the track) have a few hours rest then do the same warm up and preparation as we did earlier but this time 20 minutes before you did your next effort you took a capsule which contained caffeine and the test was to see whether your time went quicker or slower than previously..mine went quicker. When I know the programme will be on the BBC I will let you know and you can see the outcome of the test....until then you sit in suspense!
I was short-listed for Cheshire Sports Personality of the Year 2013, me and my dad went along to the awards evening which was held at Cranage Hall. When they called my name out that I'd won I was really happy, and very surprised. Its a great achievement for me, my trophy will take pride of place on the mantel piece!
Like last year, our main sponsors Matrix Fitness UK supported the Action Medical Research Dinner aka Champions of Cyclesport Dinner 2013. This is an evening held at the Hurlingham Club in Putney raising money for babies who are sick, disabled or born prematurely. This year they raised a whopping £185,000, by auctioning lots of cycling memorabilia such as a TDF yellow jersey signed by Chris Froome, a signed Sir Chris Hoy painting and many more. With cycling stars such as Chris Boardman, Jody Cundy, Sean Kelly, Andy Tennant and many more being the champion guests of the evening, it was always set to be a great night there was evening a 'surprise' guest of the night Sir Chris Hoy himself. Its fantastic to see such a great charity being supported so well and raising so much money to help the poorly babies/children. I really hope to go and support it again next year!
A mad dash for the tube and train home from London on the Friday and I was to unpack and pack again ready to travel to Glasgow for the second round of the Revolution series; a last minute thing. I travelled up to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome early doors Saturday morning with good friends Monica Dew and her parents, as Monica was racing in the future stars, something I did as an under16. I was pretty nervous to be fair as I hadn't done much track work because I didn't know I was riding until 3 days before, however I got stuck in and gave it my best shot. My best result was 9th in the Elimination, although not a great successful weekend, it was very enjoyable and fun to get back to racing, and was pretty cool to race on Sir Chris' track for the first time! My next race is the Spadger6 Day-Night 14th December at the Manchester Velodrome details and tickets can be found here: www.spadgers6daynight.co.uk
